Why Is My Furnace Blowing Cold Air?

A broken furnace can cause you a lot of stress, especially during the winter. Some issues with heating require professional help others are easy to fix. Why is your furnace blowing cold air? Read the text below.

The thermostat problem

The thermostat is a significant part of the HVAC system. It signals the HVAC system when it is time to turn on the heat. If your furnace blows cold air, there is a possibility that the thermostat is sending the signal to turn on the blower motor, not the burner. In this situation, the air blown into your home will be cold. If there is no solution to fix the thermostat, you might need to replace it.

Ignition problem

If your pilot light or electric furnace ignition is cracked, there will be no fire to heat the cold air. Pilot lights are most common for older furnaces. If you have a problem with cold air in your home, this might be the problem.

Lack of fuel

With a gas furnace, the problem might be with the gas supply. Either the gas valve is broken, or if you use propane, your gas supply will run out, and you’ll have to refill it.

Overheated furnace

If your furnace overheats, it might blow cold air out of the vents when the heat is on. The reason is that the furnace’s safety mode has been activated.

Clogged coil

The evaporator coil is a part of the cooling system. Even though the evaporator coil is used for cooling, due to its position, air must pass through it to enter the supply duct. If the coil is dirty or clogged the air will have difficulty flowing past the evaporator coil. It can obstruct airflow entirely, resulting in blowing cold air.

Nobody likes spending time in a cold home. Regular HVAC cleaning and maintenance can help you avoid more serious problems.
