5 Common HVAC Abnormalities

Some HVAC abnormalities are minor, and you can fix them by yourself. For example, you can change a dirty filter on your own. The others are more complex, and you should probably call your local HVAC technician to fix the problem for you. Here is the list of 5 common HVAC abnormalities.

1. Dirty filters

One of the most important things when it comes to the HVAC system is to remember to replace your filters regularly, at least twice a year. A dirty HVAC filter has many negative impacts. It can become a home to allergens, reduce the ability of humidifiers to work well, reduce the airflow which will eventually affect your energy bill.

2. Thermostat malfunctions

Sometimes when you think you have problems with your furnace, it is a broken thermostat. It can be a minor problem when all you need is to replace the batteries. In some other cases, you should probably call the technician to fix it.

3. Strange noises

Some HVAC system noises result from normal operation. However, others may indicate a failing system or the need for urgent repair.
If your HVAC system starts making a rattling sound, then you know it’s time to call a professional repair service. If you hear a hissing or bubbling sound, it’s most likely because your AC has a refrigerant leak. Clanking is another sign of a loose or out-of-balance part. Whatever the sound is, make sure to call the HVAC technician.

4. Dirty coils

Usually, when your home smells like dirty socks, do not worry. It is the so-called dirty sock syndrome. The syndrome is not dangerous for your health except, it is annoying. It comes from dirty coils, pipes, and ducts. The nature of the debris build-up in ducts depends
on house activities. If you have pets most of the dirt will be made of cats’ and dogs’ hair. Do not forget to clean your ducts regularly, so you will never have to face the dirty sock syndrome.

5. Water leaks

HVAC system produces condensate, which is drained through water drainage. When the pipes are clogged, they can leak water. A good HVAC technician will be able to fix the leakage problem in no time.
